It is a tough pill to swallow, folks, watching the postseason unfold without our boys in the Old English D. We wanted more, we expected more, but at 76-86, the math just didn’t add up in our favor this year. The AL Central was a gauntlet, and while we showed flashes of that grit Detroit is known for, consistency remained our greatest adversary. Too many missed opportunities and gaps in the lineup left us on the outside looking in, nine games off the pace when the dust finally settled on our 162-game campaign.
Now, the winter chill settles in, and the real work begins in the front office. We have major questions to answer regarding our roster depth and offensive production if we want to be part of the October conversation next year. Watching these other teams battle it out right now is painful, but it serves as a stark reminder of the level we need to reach. The foundation is there, but the building needs more structural integrity. We’ll be back, Detroit. We always are. For now, we watch, we learn, and we prepare for the day the Tigers finally bring postseason baseball back to the Motor City.
