It is Wednesday, October 28, and as a Leafs fan, I have mastered the art of expecting the absolute worst while somehow remaining foolishly optimistic. The boys are in Seattle tonight to face the Kraken, looking to improve on that 7-5-2 mark. With 70 games left to play, the season is live, and we are just three games back in the Atlantic. It is far too early for the annual tradition of questioning my existence, though I am already well-practiced. Before tonight’s tilt, we can look back at Tuesday, October 27, which saw some interesting results: CBJ edged PHI 4-3, CAR took down BOS 2-1, and CHI beat LA 2-1. MTL shut out STL 2-0, NYI narrowly topped NSH 4-3, NJ dismantled DAL 5-1, and FLA crushed WPG 5-1. Elsewhere, MIN beat UTA 3-1, VGK handled OTT 4-1, VAN survived ANA 6-5, and BUF blanked SJ 2-0. As for our Leafs, they are deep in the hunt, and I suppose that is all we can ask for. I will be watching tonight, bracing for the inevitable, because apparently, 1967 wasn't enough of a lesson for me.
